Tutorial Guides: Entry #3

⇐ Tutorial 1 Part 2:
Tutorial 1 Part 4a:
Tutorial 1 Part 4b:  Fighter Job Change Quests
Tutorial 1 Part 4c:  Spelluser Job Change Quests
Tutorial 1 Part 4d:  Backpacker Job Change Quests

Now that we have completed the basic tutorial, it's time we really start with the game.

ECO has thirteen Job Classes made up of:
  • four Fighters (Swordsman, Fencer, Scout & Archer);
  • four Spellusers (Wizard, Shaman, Vates & Warlock);
  • four Backpackers (Tatarabe, Farmer, Ranger & Merchant); and
  • the humble Novice.
Each Class (except for the Novice) currently has three Job tiers: 1st Job -> 2nd Job (2-1 Expert or 2-2 Technical) -> 3rd Job (Chronicle). To take up a Job or to move on to the next Job tier, the character must first undergo a Job-change quest.

In the "good old days", when ingame tutorials don't exist in ECO, doing the Job-change quest can be a pain, especially for Merchants. With the new tutorial, the Job-change quests remain more or less unchanged, but at least the player knows what to do and where to go now =3.

With all that said, this tutorial itself is not on Job-changes *thrown out of the window*.

Ahaha... Well, it's more like a lead-in to the Job-change quests. The aim is probably to give the new player an idea how Jobs are like in ECO and help her in the decision over which Job to take. Without further ado, let's carry on =3

Tutorial #3:

After you finished the previous tutorial, Tita will teleport you to just outside the Downtown Cafe.

Follow the navi cursor and you'll find Joker Bro (ジョーカーのお兄さん) just a few steps away.

Joker Bro, awaiting his Sora no Otoshimono...

Talk to him and snap him out of his daze =___=. Noticing that you're a freshly baked Novice, still unsure of which route to pick, he suggests that the most important thing now is how you want to live your life, starting by choosing a Job to follow.

You'll be given a set of three options to choose from:

Options:
(I want to change my Job)
(I don't need to change my Job!)
(Let me consider first)

At this point, the tutorial will branch into two routes depending on your choice:

[T301] Option #1 if you want to become a Fighter/Spelluser/Backpacker
[T302] Option #2 if you want to stick to being a Novice

Ctrl+F the words in []s to jump to your respective routes.

Note: Choosing Option #2 doesn't actually bar you from changing Jobs; you can still become a Fighter/Spelluser/Backpacker should you change your mind afterwards.

(I want to change my Job)

Your choice devastates Joker Bro, who was hoping that you'd choose his way of life, but he quickly recovers and offers to guide you on your career choices. He will give you a short personality quiz to help determine which Job is best suited for your character:

Just choose whichever answer you like; the quiz has no effect on which job you ultimately end up in.

At the end of the quiz, the Navigation Window will close for this tutorial, meaning you're pretty much done with it. Joker Bro will announce the results of the quiz but you can choose ignore it as mentioned above

When asked to go a bit more in depth with the various Jobs, Joker Bro will break into cold sweat and suggest that you ask the First Job NPCs directly instead. These are the NPCs standing in three groups of four around Joker Bro: the Fighters near the eastern stairway, the Spellusers slightly south to the central pathway leading to the Cafe and the Backpackers in the group north to them.

At this point of time the the Navigation Window will pop up again, meaning the talk is almost over. Before you leave, Joker Bro will ask you to report back to him again after you complete your Job Change:

Once you finish talking with Joker Bro, and you can begin the actual Job Change process by first choosing the Job you want to become. The choices from top to bottom are:
  • Swordsman [
  • Fencer [
  • Archer [
  • Wizard [
  • Shaman [
  • Warlock [
  • Tatarabe [
  • Farmer [
  • Ranger [
  • Merchant [
If you're still uncertain what to get, you can talk to the First Job NPCs to learn a bit more about their jobs.

Note: Before you carry on, you should enter the tent at the Backpackers' side and speak to the Ranger within. When you choose the third option (もう外に出ます) as shown below, you'll get one Heal Potion (ヒールポーション), one Magic Potion (ヒールポーション) and one Stamina Potion (スタミナポーション) from the Ranger. This freebie is given once per character, but only while the character is (still) a Novice.

  • [T302] Option #2 if you want to stick to being a Novice
Keep talking. When asked about his own Job, he'll tell you that he's a Joker, unrestrained by the confines of a Job, having awakened to the ultimate Freedom (so he says). You can choose any of the three options as shown below as your reply; it doesn't matters which one you choose, the result will still be the same:

At this point, the Navigation Window will close and Joker Bro will give you a Book of the NEET Inoccupation: the Free Person Travels Leisurely (無職の書:自由人ぶらり旅) and asks you to open it in front of the Guild Merchant (ギルド商人) in Downtown (doesn't matter which one) and the Newbie Guide (初心者案内人) on the Uptown East Movable Bridge (アップタウン東可動橋):

After you're done talking, proceed to the next tutorial event [

  1. Yay for new (although short) tutorial guide o3o

I really like this personality test part. While it doesn't really suggest correctly, it gives completely new players some nice hint to choose their first job.

...If they understand Japanese, that is :<

  2. Strange, That Joker didn't give me any book at all. The Event already clear, but the next event still in gray. i wonder is there something wrong?
