Tutorial Guides: Entry #2

 Tutorial 1 Part 1: 最初の冒険!
Tutorial 1 Part 3: 職業選択の自由

We now continue on to the next tutorial [次の冒険に向かおう!]. Like the previous tutorial, this is the 2nd half of the Primula tutorial, with very minor changes.

Without further ado, let's carry on =3.

Tutorial #2: 次の冒険に向かおう!

Navi Reward: Job Experience Enhancer (Light) (職業経験値ふえ~る(ライト))

Continuing on from where you stopped previously, you are now required to speak to Elina. But before that, re-open your Navigation Window by clicking on the "navi" button in the menu bar and select "次の冒険に向かおう!".

When you're ready, exit from the Black Cathedral and follow the cursor to find Elina (エリーナ), who's standing just a few steps away.

Talk to her. You'll give her a such a fright that she will transform into an Innsmouth.

Why an Innsmouth.... (・_・?)

Elina will scold you for talking to her out of a sudden, and then ask why are you staring at her. Your options are:

Options:
1) あの。。。 その。。。(Ehmm... Well...)
2) 魚男に見えるから!(Because I see a Fish Man!)
3) あなたが綺麗だから!(Because you're viewtiful!)

It doesn't matter which option you choose; Elina will still give you the same reply and continue on. So feel free to tell her what you think of her now =3.

Elina will come to realise that she is now possessing the Innsmouth Marionette and apologize for freaking you out. She will then offer to teach you more about Marionettes:

Options:
1) 憑依について (About Possession)
2) マリオネットについて (About Marionettes)
3) マリオネットの入手方法について (On how to obtain Marionettes)
4) 特に聞くことはない (Nothing to ask about in particular)

Option #1 will teach you how to possess another character, while option #2 will briefly touch on possessing Marionettes, and option #3 will tell you (in a rather sketchy manner) how to get the Salamander, Innsmouth, Mandragora and Electell Marionettes:

Options (when you choose option #3)
1) 教えてもらう必要はない! (Don't need to tell me about this!)
2) マリオネット・サラマンドラの入手方 (How to get Marionette Salamander)
3) マリオネットインスマウスの入手方 (How to get Marionette Innsmouth)
4) マリオネットマンドラゴラの入手方 (How to get Marionette Mandragora)
5) マリオネットエレキテルの入手方 (How to get Marionette Electell)

Note: For every account, the first character to talk to Elina will be forced to receive a free Marionette from her. There is no way you can refuse; she will keep repeating her offer (and keep you from progressing) until you accept her gift:

Options:
1) ちょっと考える (Lemme think over it a bit)
2) マリオネット・サラマンドラ (Marionette Salamander)
3) マリオネットインスマウス (Marionette Innsmouth)
4) マリオネットマンドラゴラ (Marionette Mandragora)
5) マリオネットエレキテル (Marionette Electell)

Choosing option #1 is pretty much useless, since Elina will just tell you that each Marionette has its own strengths and weaknesses and that you'll come into other types in your future adventures, so just choose whichever of the four you like.

For new players, here's a basic description of the Marionettes offered by Elina:

  • Salamander:
Element: Fire (weak against Wind, strong against Water)
Stat modifiers: +5 STR, -5 DEX, +7 VIT, -6 AGI, +30 HP, +5 MP, +13 SP
Skills: Aural Whip (active skill, 5x5 AoE Fire-elemental damage around the caster, MATK-based)
Natural Recovery: HP
  • Innsmouth
Element: Water (weak against Fire, strong against Earth)
Stat modifiers: +10 STR, -3 DEX, -7 INT, +7 VIT, +3 AGI, -10 MAG, +17 SP
Skills: Catch and Release (active skill, draws a target and then hits it back 3 cells while dealing Water-elemental damage, ATK-based)
Natural Recovery: SP
Note: Possessing the Innsmouth Marionette also gives a boost to the character's movement speed.
  • Mandragora
Element: Earth (weak against Water, strong against Wind)
Stat modifiers: -2 VIT, -4 AGI, +2 MAG, +25 HP, +10 MP, +8 SP
Skills: Exclamation (active skill, inflicts Confuse status to targets in a 2x2 AoE around the caster, success rate is based on INT)
Natural Recovery: MP
  • Electell
Element: Wind (weak against Earth, strong against Fire)
Stat modifiers: +11 STR, +3 DEX, -8 INT, +20 VIT, -13 AGI, -7 MAG, +40 HP, +11 SP
Skills: Short Circuit (active skill, 5x5 AoE Wind-elemental damage around the caster, MATK-based)
Natural Recovery: HP
Note: Natural Recovery refers to the passive skill that all Marionettes have. It allows the possessor to recover either HP, SP or MP at all times, depending on the Marionette used.

The sturdy Electell is generally a good choice for new players, especially most Fighters and the Backpackers, who would need to engage in melee combat. The Innsmouth is also good for people who burn SP fast by spamming skills. Though the Mandragora has awful stat bonuses, its Natural MP Recovery skill makes it an adequate partner for magi until a better Marionette is obtained.

Once you're done with your choice, choose 4) 特に聞くことはない (Nothing to ask about in particular) from the top menu. Elina will then mention that you might be the one that Titus was probably talking about and that he is at the White Cathedral. That will be your next destination.

Note: If you were at the "How to get Marionettes" set of choices, Elina will tell you about Titus when you choose 1) 教えてもらう必要はない! (Don't need to tell me about this!). After she finishes talking, you'll be back at the top menu. Just choose option #4 from there to escape her clutches =D.

Follow the Navi cursor to the right side of Uptown and you'll come across the White Cathedral. When you enter the Warp Point at the door, you'll be presented with three choices:

    Options:
    1) タイタスに会いにいく (Enter to meet Titus)
    2) 白の聖堂に入る (Enter the White Cathedral)
    3) ともしびの聖堂に入る (Enter the Cathedral of Lamplights)

Choose option #1 to continue. You'll find Titus (タイタス), Tita's elder brother, waiting at the inner right area:

If the rumors are true, then this chap is actually over 100 years old...

Titus will first give you the Feather Ornament of Wisdom (ちえの羽飾り) and some experience, before offering some tips for daily living and a brief talk on Elements:

    Options:
    1) 生活の基本について (Basics of [daily] living)
    2) 属性について (About Elements)
    3) もう大丈夫 (I'm fine/done now)

Option #1 will mainly touch on the Guild Merchants (ギルド商人) and their services while option #2 will show you the Element relation chart and touch a bit on the importance of understanding how the Elements work.

Once you're done (or if you don't want/need to check out his lessons), choose option #3 to continue. Titus will then ask if you're really ready to carry on:

    Options:
    1) もう一度確認しようかな (I'll like to go over once more)
    2) 大丈夫です! (I'm good to go!)

Choose #1 to go through his tips again, or #2 to continue. After choosing option #2, Titus would first inform you of another of Primula's (or rather the Event Navigator's) functions. By now you may have noticed that the Event Navigator doesn't just show you how to complete tutorials.

If you click on the ▼button next to this scroll-down menu (boxed in yellow):

You will see all the categories of Events that the Navigator covers:

    • Tutorial
    • Tutorial 2 (the one that's selected in the image above)
    • Main Story
    • Nekomata
    • Joint Job
    • Side Story
    • Delta Saga tied-in Events
    • Obtaining Skill Points / EP 1
    • Obtaining Skill Points / EP 2
    • DEM Events
    • Heartful
    • Others
    • Others 2
Sometimes the Events have common tasks; in such cases, you'll end up performing part (or rarely, all) of the tasks in Event B while working on Event A. From the Event Navigation Window, you can actually see which Event(s) in each category has been worked on, by looking at the Status (状態) column (boxed in red):

    • If Event status = White 開始 (Start): Fresh Event (has not been worked on before), can be initiated whenever you're ready.
    • If Event status = White 進行中(In progress): You've started on this event but has not yet completed it.
    • If Event status = Blue 褒賞有 (Ready for reward): What it says; you've finished the Event and its reward awaits you.
    • If Event status = Grey 開始 (Start): The conditions for starting on this Event has not been met yet; i.e. you can't do this Event now.
To find out how far you've gone into for each Event, just take a look at the 達成度 (Level of Completion) bar (boxed in yellow as shown above).

Titus will open the Event Navigation Window while he teaches you about the above function. Once he finishes talking, close the Window. He will then send you back to Tita, who will be your last stop for this tutorial.

She will give a more detailed explanation on the Possession System, including its merits and demerits (which Elina had not touched on previously).

As she ends her talk, Tita will inform you that she is unable to stay with you any longer but she is glad to be able to meet you. Unfortunately this would also be the last time you would meet her in your dreams as well. However, she assures you that there would be other good people in the world who would be happy to show you the way.

Finally, before the two of you part ways, Tita has some last gifts for you: the Eye of Magical Power (まりょくの瞳) chest accessory and some experience.

Note: By now you would have collected the entire so-called Beginner's Equipment set which, besides being ridiculously heavy and bulky, also provides some bonuses:
    • Dexterous Armguard (みかわしの手甲): + 1 DEX
    • Protective Clothes (まもりの服): +1 VIT
    • Swift Boots (しゅんそくの靴): +1 AGI
    • Mighty Hammer (ごうわんの槌): +1 STR
    • Alluring Pants (みわくのパンツ): +5 for all Element values
    • Feather Ornament of Wisdom (ちえの羽飾り): +1 INT
    • Eye of Magical Power (まりょくの瞳): +1 MAG
Most of these should last you until after level 20~28, where you could thankfully give them up for better (and usually lighter) equipment. Do take note that the defensive equipment listed here provide excellent defence (for starter armor) only against physical damage but not so against magical attacks.

Of the above, only the Eye of Magical Power is worth keeping; chest accessories that add to MAG are rare. The Dexterous Armguard is another useful item; not only for its DEX bonus, but also because it's one of the very few shields that can be equipped by all jobs. The Feather Ornament on the other hand is a worthless item; the Dragonfly Ball (トンボ球) head accessory from the Jeweller's shop in Uptown gives the same +1 INT at only 1.0 weight /1.0 capacity.

You're now ready for your first job change. Double-click on [職業選択の自由] in the Event Navigation Window to continue:

Even as Tita says her final goodbyes, her image wavers before you and you begin to lose consciousness. When you wake up again, you'll find yourself at Downtown, in front of the Cafe. Your next date will be the Joker Bro, who will (try to) help you decide on your future career.

To be continued in the next tutorial...

        2. If you're going to play jpECO (and I highly recommend that you at least try out), please by all means test VPN connection first to see if you have any issue with it, before downloading the huge client.

the only one I know is tsunagaru. It's rather difficult to get connected (almost 1/2 hour++ just trying to connect), but I didn't meet any problem or lag while playing once connected.
do you know any other free vpn?

        4. Strange, most people I know (including me) have no problem at all with Tsunagarumon, while a few (including you) have extreme difficulty with connecting to it. I assume it has something to do with either your computer/modem setting or that your internet service blocks VPN connection. In either case I can't help though, since I'm not a skilled internet user :<

There is another free Japanese VPN called PacketiX. It's a bit more complex to setup but it has an English interface and doesn't DC frequently like Tsunagarumon. It is however incredibly slow (thus lags like hell in game). If you're interested, check out the tutorial over here: http://www.livingonlines.com/2009/05/test-japanese-vpn-service.html

        5. Also if you run into any particular numbered error, try checking this site: http://www.vpnserverwindows7.net/ (it works with XP/Vista too). It might be mostly general solutions, but it might help sometimes.

        6. mostly error 619 (a connection to the remote computer could not be established).

in some times, it's 628 (terminated by the remote computer before it could be completed).

and in a very rare case, it's error 0x8007274d (target machine actively refused connection)

I found out that 619 has something to do with firewall or anti virus, while I have no idea about the other two. but after I disabled them, it turns into 628, or sometimes 0x8007274d. even in some cases, it's still 619 even after I disabled firewall.

but recently (at least last night), I managed to connect after only a few redial...

I don't know.. it just seems like.. they're so random trolling me.. orz
